Studying High Blood Pressure

Studying High Blood Pressure

Hello and welcome to my final action project for my Cure class. In this unit, the main focus was talking about preventive care. When talking about preventive care, the main goal is to treat symptoms that you might have before getting a specific disease. We got to talk to Chris Riley, who is a doctor at a cancer study. We spoke to Dr Karen Johnson as well; she is a doctor who practices…as well as Dr. Karen Johnson, who is a doctor that practices using Eastern medicine. Both of them gave us a lot of information about how to prevent getting diseases like cancer, diabetes, and how some minorities have better chances of getting those diseases compared to others. We also got to go to mindworks which is an interactive center where you can do your own studies and scientists look at them to make specific changes. Leading up to this final action project, we were assigned to create a case summary for a patient and create recommendations for their preventative care.

Here’s my case study below:

I thought that this Action Project was pretty fun to work through. I thought it was interesting to learn about Nooks’s family history and see how medical professionals might improve their standings. Even so, I did think it was difficult to get all the information down on a time crunch. If I were to do this project again, I might want to look into a different disease and try to prevent that.

A Love Album - Romeo and Juliet

A Love Album - Romeo and Juliet

This is my final action project for my class, Healthy Relationships in Shakespeare. In this class we’ve been doing some more digging into some other relationships in the Shakespearean plays. For this last unit we read the famous Romeo and Juliet. In this play there were many fights, many mistakes, and losses. As one of Shakespeare’s most popular tragedies, it was also interesting to watch the many different adaptations. This led to this last action project being to create a playlist of the events of Romeo and Juliet. Before we get to the playlist, let's summarize the play’s plot.

The play begins in Verona with Romeo, a 16 year old Montague that’s coping over a girl with his friend Benvolio helping him to cheer up. Then there’s a fight between the Montagues and the Capulets. The Capulets are a different family who are constantly budding heads with the Montauges. The Prince then threatens anyone who gets in another fight by banning them from the city. Romeo and his gang got into a capulet only party which is where Romeo met Juliet. Once they meet they fall in love immediately and then get married the next day. When Tybalt, an opposing Capulet hears about this news, fights and gets killed by Romeo. Once Romeo is banned Juliet is in shambles. After some more killing, betrayal, and death, Romeo and Juliet end up both killing themselves leaving everyone else devastated.

Here’s my Here's my playlist below that’s based off the play’s plot:

Overall, I enjoyed working on this project because it was a bit out of my comfort zone and got me to think about music in a different way. I don’t listen to too much music in my free time so this action project was sometimes a struggle for me. If I were to do this project again I might try to change some of the songs for ones that could maybe fit some of the scenes in a better way.

A Proud Matriarch

Hello and welcome to my last action project for my Drama class. In this last unit titled Matriarch, we talked about the differences between matriarchy and patriarchy as well as how it affects different types of people. From there we had a discussion about Langston Hughes' poem, Harlem. This poem talks about the concept of dreams, how dreams could possibly be remembered, or sometimes forgotten. After reading the poem, we acted out the play, A Raisin in the Sun that was based off Langston Hughes poem. In the play, there are issues like segregation, racism, sexism, capitalism, matriarchy, and patriarchy in the play. The concept of a matriarchy is a group or system that is run by women or predominantly women. This Is shown through Mama She's a strong, proud, charismatic, and the leader of the house. After analyzing these concepts we looked at the history of segregation, redling, and blockbusting.

For this last action project we were assigned to create a greek chorus based on a conflict between characters in the play. Greek choruses are similar to choruses that we might listen to on a song we might like. The difference is that it’s done by a group of people who make comments about the events in a play, usually through song or dance. I chose to talk about the conflict Mama is having with Ruth, Walter, and Beneatha. In the conflict here is the fact that Mama decided to buy a house in the Clybourne neighborhood. Clybourne park at this moment was a predominantly white neighborhood so it was dangerous for the youngsters to move there because they would be the only black people living there.

Here’s my chorus talking to Lena Younger (Mama) as she talks to Walter, Ruth, and Beneatha about being “welcomed” to the neighborhood.

Overall, I really enjoyed working throughout this project. Writing about Mama and looking at the forms of segregation in different places was really compelling and something I enjoyed. At first I did think it was hard to write about Mama because she’s such a powerful character and I thought she’d be hard to criticize. Even though that was true, I did still manage to find some places to look at and give feedback towards. This unit has been one that I’ve really enjoyed, but if I were to do this project again I would write to a different character with a bit more negative aspects.
